Power BI Connector installation instructions

In order to make the Add-On work, you need to install Power BI Desktop and the Archicad Power BI Connector.

  1. Copy the .mez file to the connectors folder (this step is done by the installer automatically).  The Add-Ons folder typically looks like this: *”C:\Users\User\Documents\Power BI Desktop\Custom Connectors”*.
  2. Enable unverified extensions.
    • Start Power BI Desktop.
    • Open “File > Options and settings > Options”.
    • In the left panel, select “Security”.
    • Under Data Extensions, select “(Not Recommended) Allow any extension to load without validation or warning”.
    • Click “OK”.
  3. The connector is now installed and ready to use.

Connect Archicad and Power BI

Prepare Archicad

  1. Open the Power BI Palette from “Bimdots / Power BI Connection.”
  2. Select the view used for property calculation and choose the properties you want to transfer from Archicad. You can define multiple data sets, each with a different source view and property set.
  3. Copy the project name using the button in the top-right corner of the palette.

Transfer Data to Power BI

  1. Click Get Data on the ribbon.
  2. Select Archicad Connector.
  3. Paste the project name and, optionally, the data set name. If you leave the data set name empty, the default data set will be used.
  4. Click “Load.

Your data is now ready to use in Power BI.
